Submitting a video assignment
Xamk's video service Panopto allows you to make and submit video assignments. The video can be uploaded to the Panopto service either as a file or made with the Panopto Recorder application included in the service.For instructions on how to make a video assignment, contact your teacher. Please note that the instructions for returning may differ from these general instructions. Please always read the instructions given by your teacher carefully.
Submit video as a file
You will find a link to submit the video assignment on the course platform. The link is marked with a green Panopto icon 
. The link or the video assignment will tell you which folder to return your video to. You will not be able to upload videos to any folder other than the folder for the assignment return.
Please name the video file so that the teacher recognizes it as your own. A good way is to put your own name in the file name.
- Go to the Learn platform of the course and click on the Video submission link on the platform.
- After clicking on the link, your browser will open the course folder in Panopto.
- Click once to open the assignment folder.
- At the top of the page you will see a Create button. Click on the button and select Upload media from the drop-down menu that opens.
- Drag and drop a video file from your computer to be uploaded into the field in the middle of the window that opens, or click on the field and locate the file to be uploaded from your computer.
- Wait for the file to load without closing the window. When the download is complete, close the window and make sure you can see the video you have uploaded in the assignment folder.
Please note that videos are processed after downloading, so the video may not be viewable immediately after downloading.
Recording a video with Panopto recorder
The Panopto Recorder app is intended for making webcam and screen recording videos. The application can be downloaded from the Panopto video service. The download link can be found in the top right corner of the interface.
With Panopto Recorder, recording a video task is done as follows:
- Go to the Learn platform of the course and click on the Video submission link on the platform.
- After clicking on the link, a folder for the course will open in your browser in the Panopto service.
- If you have not yet installed the Panopto Recorder application on your computer, download the application using the link in the top right corner of the interface. Also remember to install the application after downloading it.
- Click once to open the assignment folder
- At the top of the page you will see a Create button. Click on the button and select Record a new session from the drop-down menu that opens. The browser will ask you if you want to launch the Panopto Recorder application. Accept the launch.
- Ensure that the correct assignment folder is selected in the Folder section of the application.
- In the Name field, enter a name for the recording that your teacher will recognize as being made by you.
- Under Primary sources, select the image sources you want to record and click the Record button.
- When you finish recording, the recorded file will be automatically uploaded to Panopto. Close the Recorder app and make sure you see the file you recorded in the Task Returns folder.
Please note that recordings made with Panopto Recorder are also processed after uploading, so the video may not be viewable immediately after uploading.
